Are you avoiding the dentist?  Maybe you’re worried about pain, but you don’t like the idea of being sedated, either.
Well, here’s the good news: Many procedures — like fillings and crowns — can be done with something called “local anesthesia.” So what does that mean?
  •  Your mouth is numbed wherever the work is being done
  •  You get to stay awake for the procedure
  •  Topical anesthesia (i.e. gel or ointment) numbs soft tissues like your gums
  •  Injectable anesthesia (i.e. Novocaine) numbs a larger area of the mouth, including your teeth and jaw
And if the idea of a needle going into your gums gives you cold sweats, don’t panic! Topical ointment can be used before injectable anesthesia so you won’t even feel the needle!
The other good news?
